Professor Kerstin Mey, Ph.D., Named a VIP Member of Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Arts Research
Kerstin Mey hopes to play an influential role in advocating for the roleand values of the arts in wider society
FARNHAM, SURREY, UK, January 18, 2012 /AE PR News/ -- Professor Kerstin Mey, Director of the Research and Enterprise Department for the University for the Creative Arts, has been named a VIP Member by Cambridge Who's Who. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Professor Mey's expertise spans a variety of topics, including the theory and history of art, German literature and language, education, psychology, research and academic management, and leadership in higher education. She applies her vast knowledge as a peer reviewer for UK Research Councils, including the Arts and Humanities Research Council, international funding bodies, and global publishing houses. She has 22 years of experience, spending the last two as the director of the research and enterprise department for the University for the Creative Arts.
A recent addition to the University for the Creative Arts, Professor Mey handles strategic and direct development of the staff, and develops research, partnerships, contracts, budgets, reports, and new initiatives with partners. She also oversees the development of the Ph.D. program, collaborates with other national and international institutions, researchers and artists, and maintains her own research activities and international profile. Her own research is concerned with the situatiatedness and models of contemporary cultural practices, public pedagogies, the documentation and archiving of art, and knowledge production at the interface between the arts and sciences.
Professor Mey has always aimed to work productively across disciplines, institutions, hierarchies, cultures and geographies, and she respects other people's values and perspectives. Passionate about the arts, she regards it as a civil responsibility to educate the next generation of creative practitioners and educationalists. She earned a Master of Arts in Art and German Literature and Language, a postgraduate diploma in European Cultural Policy and Administration, and a
Ph.D. in Art Theory and Aesthetics from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, located in Germany. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, UK, she is also member of the Association of Art Historians (UK). She has been given several accolades, including the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Research Award from 2006 to 2009 and the AHRC Award for Collaborative Doctoral Training Provision from 2006 to 2008, and an AHRC Block Grant Partnership Capacity Building Award 2011-2014.
In the future, she intends to successfully promote the university in becoming more internationally recognized, and enhance the institution's research profile and leadership in the creative economy. In addition, she seeks to mature her own research in models of contemporary art practice and their underlying hierarchies of value, and play an influential role in advocating for the arts in wider society.
