HONOLULU, HI, February 16, 2012 /AE PR News/ -- Three college roommates try to live and enjoy their student lives while caught up in the frenzy of casual drug use, recreational sex, lacrosse, rock and roll music, political activism, riots, and race relations during the tumultuous 1969-70 school year in the unique student community of Isla Vista.
Author Reilly Ridgell graduated with a BA in political science from UCLA in 1969, and an MA in the same field from UC Santa Barbara in 1970. In 1971, he joined the Peace Corps, teaching English in the outer islands of what is now called Chuuk State in Micronesia. After his Peace Corps service and a teaching contract, he left Chuuk in 1975 to teach in Guam. In 1980, he became an assistant professor at Guam Community College and in 2001 was appointed Dean.
He is the author of the widely used textbook, "Pacific Nations and Territories," in print continuously since 1983, and is co-author of its elementary level version, "Pacific Neighbors." He has also authored an anthology of Micronesian Peace Corps stories entitled "Bending to the Trade Winds," and in 2010 had his first novel, "Green Pearl Odyssey," published by Blue Ocean Press.
"It was the end of the sixties," says Ridgell, "and the future was not clear at all. The social unrest created by the Vietnam War affected everybody, even those who tried not to get involved. And it's not all that different today."
