Multi-cultural Stories Grab Students and Educators
Schools and families like books that feature minority characters. February is Black History Month.
MIDVALE, UT, February 01, 2012 /AE PR News/ -- Students and teachers love books with minority characters. For author Karl Beckstrand, it's a lesson learned. During Black History Month Beckstrand will share his diverse titles with students from many backgrounds.
School demand has grown for Beckstrand's activity books, which feature minority characters and come in Spanish and bilingual versions. Having protagonists that appeal to broad groups increases interest in the subjects--which include a cookbook for kids, finding and counting activities and language instruction.
Families get instruction too--with stories and activities. Bad Bananas: A Story Cookbook for Kids has an African-American character and healthy recipes that budding cooks can learn with their families. Beckstrand's other titles include Hispanic and Asian/bi-racial characters and a pronunciation guide in English, Spanish, or both languages.
This year Beckstrand has had titles in Amazon's top ten large print children's books and their top ten Spanish children's titles. She Doesn't Want the Worms! A Mystery was named in the top ten books of 2011 by ForeWord Reviews Magazine and is featured in January's School Library Journal.
Beckstrand has also written a non-fiction series about immigrant children overcoming obstacles. He hopes these true accounts will inspire kids of all backgrounds to reach for good goals regardless of circumstances. He regularly speaks about writing and publishing to classes, schools and other groups.
Premio Publishing has been delighting readers since 2004. Nationally lauded (ForeWord Reviews, Horn Book blog, School Library Journal, Midwest Review), our activity picture books--including a cookbook for kids, Spanish/bilingual books with pronunciation guide and English, Spanish or bilingual text, and ebook mysteries--feature minority characters, capture attention and create repeat readers. Distribution via: Ingram, Brodart, Baker & Taylor, Follett/BWI, Amazon, Nook/Kindle/ibooks/Kobo, Premiobooks.com
