Lima Native Gregory Pitts to Open Film Festival

The Northwest Ohio Independent Film Festival will featurean avant-garde short on Opening Night, created by a homegrown artist now residing in Miami, Florida.

LIMA, OH, February 15, 2012 /AE PR News/ -- The Northwest Ohio Film Foundation is proud to announce that the Opening Night of the 2012 Independent Film Festival will officially commence with "Karma," an avant-garde film written and produced by Lima native Gregory Pitts, followed by a Celebration of Shorts and a Midnight Screening.

"I am blown away by how striking this film is," says Executive Director Len Archibald. "It is the perfect film to re-introduce Gregory Pitts to the Lima public, as well as make a bold statement about the diversity of films we intend to screen at the Festival." "Karma" is a film that analyzes an artist's path as he attempts to live out his dreams.

Gregory Pitts, now residing in Miami, Florida, attributes his success to the experiences he had growing up in Lima. "I am from Lima, and I'm proud of it," says Mr. Pitts. "Lima has done great things for me. I owe it to my hometown to come back for this event. It means a lot to me to share my success with the community that helped me get to where I am today."

After embarking on his career in cinema and fine art in 2001, Gregory soon became a nationally acclaimed artist. His cinematic works include five award-winning shorts that have screened at film festivals in Florida and Tennessee. Mr. Pitts' abstract art and photography has been featured in W Magazine, and is continually on display in a number of exhibits and art galleries across the country. As an actor, Gregory most recently appeared in "The Transporter 2."

"The bottom line is that I am here to let everyone in Northwest Ohio know that they can accomplish their dreams," says Gregory. The Film Foundation is thrilled to kick off the Festival with Karma as a testament to its commitment to promote local talent, and encourage future filmmakers and media artists from the area.

The Northwest Ohio Independent Film Festival will be held July 6-8, 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. For more info, please visitwww.nwoff.org and www.TheGregPitts.com. To arrange an interview with Gregory Pitts, contact Executive Director Len Archibald.
