Judith A. Brust Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Art

Judith Brust has exhibited her work in a multitude of solo and group shows worldwide

NANTUCKET, MA, December 28, 2011 /AE PR News/ -- internationally acclaimed artist Judith Brust has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the fine arts.

Ms. Brust has been involved in the world of art for more than three decades. She has exhibited her work in a multitude of solo and group shows worldwide (including at Modernism and ART20 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York and at an international juried two-part exhibition in Seoul, Korea) and many of her pieces have found homes in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. Working in various mediums, Ms. Brust is best known for her paintings, drawings, sculptures, and large layered monoprints. She studies and draws inspiration from the writings of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell and Gaston Bachelard, as well as fellow painters and sculptors such as Mark Rothko, Paul Klee, Louise Bourgeois and Eva Hesse. A graduate of the University at Albany, she holds a Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in sculpture.

In 2004, Ms. Brust established galleryblue in Rochester, N.Y., a unique art gallery that was relocated to Old South Wharf on Nantucket Island in 2006 when she and her husband, Bob, moved to the island. A provider of original, out-of-the ordinary art, the gallery celebrated influential artists that reflected the historically sophisticated and international flavor of Nantucket Island. Over the years, Ms. Brust welcomed many modern artists to exhibit alongside her own works. In addition to recognizing other modernists, both experienced and emerging, Ms. Brust worked with her team at galleryblue to develop community outreach exhibits and shows that could benefit local non-profits such as the Nantucket Marine Mammal Conservation Program and the Nantucket Arts Council. After five years, she decided to expand her reach to a broader audience. She became affiliated with The Gallery at 35 Main, owned by the renowned collector Kathleen Knight.

"I am pleased with the work we have done at galleryblue over the years," Ms. Brust stated. "Many customers have supported us in their appreciation of modern art, but it was time to shake things up. Operating a gallery on Old South Wharf no longer met the needs that my work requires so I am thrilled to be associated with The Gallery at 35 Main with its outstanding location and its interesting blend of art and history in such an inviting space. "I have great admiration for Kathleen and the reputation she has built for herself, her artists and her galleries over the many years she's been a part of the Nantucket art scene. I am further excited to explore new possibilities in what the future holds as I continue my career within the arts."

Ms. Brust's monoprints are displayed at The Gallery at 35 Main and her sculpture can be seet at Graficus Gallery, located at 18 Broad Street in Nantucket. Both galleries are open year-round. In Boston, her work is represented by L'Attitude Gallery, situated at 211 Newbury Street, as well as in the private collection of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Boylston Street, where she is featured alongside works by David Hockney and Frank Stella.

Ms. Brust holds an M.A. and M.F.A. from SUNY Albany. She is a board member of the Nantucket Arts Council and the Artists Association of Nantucket. In the years to come, she looks forward to continued success within the field of art and re-establishing her reputation as a masterful sculptor.
