Entrepreneur Celebrates 11 Million Minutes of Marriage on 11-11-11
The founder of a Cincinnati app development shop stumbled upon a very unlikely event thanks to his latest app creation called Versaries: he and his wife would celebrate 11 Million Minutes of being married on Friday, 11-11-11.
CINCINNATI, OH, November 12, 2011 /AE PR News/ -- When Cincinnati entrepreneur Daren Murrer envisioned creating an iPhone App, he never imagined how that app would grow and eventually alert him to a one-in-a-million coincidence: On November 11, 2011, Daren and his wife Kathy will have been married 11,000,000 minutes. That's 11 Million on 11-11-11.
The app he created, called Versaries , takes any date or special event and uncovers once-in-a-lifetime special occasions known as "Versary" milestones. Thousands of Versaries users have used the app to find their own Versary occasions: turning 1 Billion Seconds old, being married longer than they were single, or any number of interesting milestones built into the app. When a milestone moment occurs, users get a Versary Alert so they can share the news with friends on Facebook and Twitter.
Daren and Kathy Murrer were married on December 12, 1990 at 2:00 in Cincinnati, OH. More than twenty years after they were married, Daren' s curiosity about time led him to develop what he thought was a simple app; "I just wanted to find out when we each would be married longer than had been single." By the time the app was finished, Versaries was a beautiful-styled interactive tool that underneath its clockwork visuals hides more lines of code than Windows 3.1.
Thousands of development hours and a patent filing later, Murrer's simple app idea has transformed into a growing startup. Earlier in the year, Versaries got a huge lift from Harold Camping's doomsday predictions. When a user shared a countdown to the "end of the world" created in the app, it brought more than 38,000 visitors to the Versaries website in less than 48 hours. "That's when we knew we had something great happening" said Versaries co-founder Tom Humphrey.
With the recent boom in mobile apps, success is not surprising. Apple recently revealed that more than 15 billion applications had been downloaded for iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad. On average these users spend 73 minutes a day using apps. This Friday, November 11, 2011, Daren and Kathy Murrer will take a break from the fast moving world of mobile technology to celebrate their 11 Millionth Minute together and the couple are looking forward to 11 million more.
