Wine and Design Hosts Fundraiser on November 6th to Support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Fundraiser to raise money to help control and find a cure for cystic fibrosis
RALEIGH, NC October 29, 2011 /AE PR News/ -- Wine and Design, Raleigh's first wine and painting party company, will be hosting a fundraiser to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on Sunday, November 6th from 2:30-5:00pm. For a cost of $45 per person, attendees will be painting "White Lily" during the two-hour, instructor-led painting class.
Cathy Reed, a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Honoree, is sponsoring the event as part of her Top of the Triangle program. She hopes to be able to use proceeds from the evening's fundraiser (25% of which will go directly to CFF) to help her achieve her overall fundraising goal of $5,000.
"I found out about Wine and Design through friends who had attended one of their painting classes," says Reed. "Fundraisers are very important to the Foundation so when someone at the CFF Raleigh Chapter told me that Wine and Design offers fundraisers as an event option, I thought it was such a great idea!"
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems. A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that not only clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections, but also obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food. Symptoms of the disease include persistent coughing, wheezing or shortness of breath, and poor growth/weight gain. About 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis are diagnosed each year, with more than 70% of patients being diagnosed by age two.
Supporting organizations like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation remains a priority for Wine and Design's founders, Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills. Since opening its doors in 2010, Wine and Design has supported several schools and civic groups, as well as such causes as the Susan G. Komen Foundation, StepUP Ministry, Interact's Rock for Kids event, Pancreatic Cancer Society, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Mills says that being able to give back to the community is one of the most rewarding parts of her job.
"The research that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is doing in order to find a cure for this devastating disease is important and vital," says Mills. "We're delighted that Cathy has allowed us to help her bring this cause to light and to give it the attention it deserves.
